Värdegrundscentrum (National Centre for Values
Education), Umeå university, Umeå is
a national centre for the improvement of values education in Swedish schools.
The task is to assist and support schools in their work with basic values,
such as democracy, human rights, equality, ethnicity and sex education,
as well as work with abusive behaviour such as racial, sexual and other
forms of harassment and bullying.
The Centre for Values Education documents, coordinates and disseminates
information about projects and research concerning values in education,
and bring together schools and researchers in order to discuss knowledge
and experiences. The Centre collaborates with schools, municipalities,
universities, organisations and authorities as well as with the commissioning
entity, the Swedish Ministry of Education.
The purpose of the National Centre for Values Education
is to within the areas of values in education
- Take inventory of, document
and disseminate information on past, current and future projects in
schools and municipalities in Sweden and abroad.
- Take inventory of, document
and disseminate information on past, current and future research in
and Sweden and abroad.
- Take inventory of, document
and disseminate information on how questions of values in education
are treated in teacher's education in Sweden and abroad.
- Inform about courses, seminars,
conferences and symposia in Sweden and abroad.
- Initiate and stimulate discussion
and debate.
- Contribute to the creation of
local and national networks.
- Cooperate with public and private
organisations,
- Implement local and national
courses, seminars, conferences and symposia and
- Initiate, stimulate and collaborate
in the implementation of activity-based research and
development.
